Core Beliefs
About the Bible
We believe that God inspired the Bible, and in it He reveals His nature and mission (Psalm 19:7-10; Isaiah 34:16; 2 Tim. 3:15-17; Hebrews 4:12). We believe that the Bible is absolutely true in all it affirms, without error, authoritative and instructive for our lives, work and ministries (Deut. 4:1-2; Deut. 17:19; John 17:17; Rom. 15:4).
About God
We believe God is the creator and is the only true, living, holy, sovereign God, eternally existing in three equal persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1; Isaiah 6:3; John 16:13-15; Acts 2:16-47; Hebrews 1:1-2; 2 Peter 1:19-21).
About Jesus
We believe that Jesus Christ is the living Son of God. We believe that He was God Incarnate while on earth. He was supernaturally conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin. We believe that He lived, worked and ministered without sin. We believe that He was crucified, buried, rose, and ascended into heaven, and that He will come again and will establish God’s kingdom forever (Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 53:1-12; Matt. 1:18-23; Matt. 28:1-6).
About The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit empowers followers of Jesus Christ today, leading people to faith in Christ and serving as our Counselor and Encourager (Rom. 8:9-11; Rom. 8:14-16; Rom. 8:26-27; 1 Cor. 2:10-14).
About Man
We believe that God created man in His image to have a personal relationship with Him and to worship Him, but all fall short of this purpose (Genesis 1:27; John 11:25-27; Hebrews 9:14; Rev. 22:17; Col 1:21-22). We believe that all human life is to be respected and valued as God’s sacred work from conception to its natural end and should be preserved, protected, and provided for in a manner consistent with biblical ethics (Psalm 139:13; Isaiah 49:1; Jeremiah 1:5; Matthew 22: 37 – 39; Romans 12:20-21; Galatians 6:10).
About Sin
We believe that all choose to disobey God, and as such all are sinners deserving condemnation and eternal death (Col. 3:9-11; Rom. 5:12; Eph. 2:1-22; Rom. 1:19-22). We believe that sin is the transgression of God’s law (1 John 3:4), as revealed by the Holy Spirit through His eternal Word (Eph. 2:1-22; Rom. 5:12; 5:19; 7:14-25). We believe that every believer in Christ must not yield themselves to sinful passions, intoxication from alcohol or drugs, or any other unhealthy addiction (Eph. 5:18, Rom. 13:13, 1 Cor. 3:16-17, 1 Cor. 6:19-20). Instead, we must strive to pursue righteousness (Rom. 6:5-11; 2 Tim. 2:22), “so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Col. 1:10).
About Salvation
We believe that we can only be saved by receiving God’s grace by faith in Jesus Christ and His substitutionary death for us on the cross (Col. 1:21-22; Eph. 2:1-10; 1 Cor. 15:21-22; Rom. 5:6). Salvation is effected by the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit and cannot be secured by man’s work or personal merit. (Eph. 2:8-10) We believe that those who repent of their sins and trust in Christ will reign with Him in eternity, while those who do not repent and believe will be separated from Him in eternity (Matt. 16:27; Rom. 1:19-32; Eph. 2:1-10; Acts 17:26-31).
About Family
We believe God ordained the family as the foundational institution of society. Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in a covenant commitment for a lifetime (Genesis 1:26-18, 2:18-19, Mark 10:6). We believe that divorce is never God’s ideal for marriage and should only be considered on the biblical grounds (Matthew 19:9; Mark 10:5-9; 1 Corinthians 7:10-16). We also believe we are called to avoid activities that awaken or encourage sexual desire outside of its proper, God-honoring context, so that we should avoid activities such as viewing pornography or engaging in sexual harassment or sexually explicit communications (Psalm 51:10; Proverbs 23:26; Philippians 4:8). Homosexual unions are a distortion of God’s design and denounced in Scripture (Lev. 18:22; Rom. 1:26-27). Children, from the moment of conception, are a gift from the Lord and have a right to life (Psalm 127:3, 139:13-15). Gender is determined by God at conception and a rejection of one’s gender is a rejection of God’s plan for creation (Genesis 1:26-28; 5:2).
About the Church
We believe the church is the body and bride of Jesus Christ and consists of all the redeemed of all the ages (Ephesians 5:22-32). The New Testament church is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers under the authority of God’s Word and the Lordship of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 16:18). The two ordinances of the church are the Lord’s Supper and believer’s baptism by immersion in water (1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Mark 16:16). Followers of Christ are expected to b faithful in their support and service to the ministry of the church (Malachi 3:10, Ephesians 4:11-12, Hebrews 10:24-25).
About Evangelism and Missions
We believe that Jesus Christ commissions His followers to proclaim the gospel and make disciples of all peoples through the local church as well as through partnerships that reach the entire world. (Acts 13:1-3; Matt. 24:14; Matt. 28:18-20; John 20:21).
